The Science Daily references a June 27 edition of the journal, Human Reproduction Update, in which Eric Manheimer, MD (author) says that acupuncture may be beneficial when used as a complementary or adjuvant therapy for in vitro fertilization (IVF), though this depends on the baseline pregnancy rate of a fertility clinic. The study is from an analysis from the University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine.

The research shows a direct association between the baseline pregnancy success rate and the effects of adding acupuncture. However, more research is necessary to examine if acupuncture is helpful as an add-on procedure in IVF clinics with lower baseline rates, while also considering safety and cost-effectiveness.
